“The Power of Taking Inspired Action” written by Bren Koger.
Do you ever feel like no matter how much planning and attempts to control what will happen in the future, something unexpected always pops up and throws your plans into confusion?
Just when we have one thing under control like the whack-a- mole game something else pops up to throw us into confusion.
Do you find yourself waking up at night with your mind spinning with multiple plans to try to control every area of your life?
The Force of Opposition
For me, I really hate any kind of credit card debt. I try very hard to pay my entire balance every month, but there have been times in the past when I’ve had to carry a balance over to the next month.
I find myself planning and scheming on how to fix it. I think about getting a second job I hate just for the money or think about ways I can force things to happen.
It has always ended up working out so that I pay it off sooner than later. When I finally relaxed and released the need to control the situation the money came to me. I’ve wasted a lot of precious time in a state of stress when I could have had peace of mind and serenity if I’d only realized control is an illusion anyway.
Control is an Illusion Anyway
When things are going our way in an area of our life we feel good, but when things inevitably come up we will get disappointed, which leads to a roller coaster ride of feelings.
If you find yourself wanting to control an unpleasant situation which leads to negative emotions like fear and anxiety, try taking a moment to slow down and get quiet. Give yourself some space before you make a decision about what action step to take next.
Let go of the cling and grasping to make things happen.
I love the serenity prayer that is commonly associate with AA
God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change
The courage to change the things I can
And the wisdom to know the difference.
I think this is so powerful because we are not designed to figure everything out and know all there is to know about our future.
It’s beyond our capability.
Building Inspired Action through Prayer
I think we are meant to have daily fresh communication with our inner knowing and commit everything over to a higher power.
This allows us to come into our daily tasks with a level of presence and less worry for the future.
The first step is to be aware of the feelings that are there. We can grow so accustomed to the feeling of fear and anxiety we can grow numb to their effects. Awareness will allow you to create a space. You can sit with those feelings and see them for what they are.
If there is a certain area of your life that you feel you feel stuck in repeated emotions about a certain subject and you find yourself trying to control it which leads to fear and anxiety. Try this simple exercise.
Ask these questions from meditation teacher Tara Brach
What am I believing when Im feeling like this?
Is the belief true?
What’s it like to feel like that?
What does that feeling need?
What would my life be like if I didn’t have those thoughts?
Mindfulness is what grounds you in the present so that when you start to drift off into obsessing about the past, or start making plans to control the situation. fully focus on what’s happening in the moment. Stay with it long enough to give it the attention it needs.
Take Inspired Action Now
If you decide to take action do it mindfully, giving it the focus and effort it deserves. Let go of what no longer works and engaging in courageous new actions that lead to transformation.
So take a deep breath inhale and exhale, set your mind on what you wish, and take inspired action.
Awakening Now by Danna Faulds
Why wait for your awakening?
The moment your eyes are open, seize the day.
Would you hold back when the Beloved beckons?
Would you deliver your litany of sins like a child’s collection of sea shells, prized and labeled?
“No, I can’t step across the threshold,” you say, eyes downcast.
“I’m not worthy” I’m afraid, and my motives aren’t pure.
I’m not perfect, and surely I haven’t practiced nearly enough.
My meditation isn’t deep, and my prayers are sometimes insincere.
I still chew my fingernails, and the refrigerator isn’t clean.
“Do you value your reasons for staying small more than the light shining through the open door?
Now is the only time you have to be whole.
Now is the sole moment that exists to live in the light of your true Self.
Perfection is not a prerequisite for anything but pain.
Please, oh please, don’t continue to believe in your disbelief.
This is the day of your awakening.
